DTA Foundation hosts Evening of Thanks

The Dental Trade Alliance Foundation hosted its inaugural Evening of Thanks celebration at the Harvard Club of New York in conjunction with the Greater New York Dental Meeting in late November. The event honored DTA Foundation donors, grant recipients and access to care leaders for their commitment to increasing the effectiveness of the oral healthcare system.

Over 260 guests attended, including representatives of the American Dental Association, Hispanic Dental Association, American Association of Endodontists, American Association of Dental Assistants, American Academy of Periodontology, American Dental Education Association, National Dental Association, American Academy of Public Health Dentistry, American Dental Hygienists Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and The Pew Children’s Dental Campaign.

Live music, food, casino games and celebrity guests Angelo Dundee and Bert Sugar were all part of the festivities. Dundee, the boxing corner man best known for his work with Muhammad Ali, and Sugar, renowned boxing writer and historian, shared stories from their time in the boxing game. All those in attendance received signed copies of their book, My View from the Corner: A Life in Boxing.

The DTA Foundation 2009 grant recipients were also in attendance. Each of the programs listed below received $25,000 grants from the foundation earlier in the year:
  • Children’s Dental Health Project, which is working to expand access to dental care for the 15 million children newly provided with comprehensive dental coverage in the federal Child Health Insurance Program.
  • Piedmont Virginia Dental Health Foundation, focused on improving the productivity of the existing dental workforce model through its initiative with Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry.
  • TeamSmile Dental Outreach, which provides free dental services to underserved children in the community by teaming up with dental and sports professionals to provide a unique, one-of-a-kind experience.
  • Smiles for Success, which works to offer free dental services to women currently enrolled or graduated from a welfare-to-work program.
